Advance Tertiary College (ATC) is extremely proud of Mr. Eugene Lim, a graduate of our UK Degree Transfer Programme from the Penang campus, who has been named the best performing direct entry student at the University of Liverpool for 2026. Eugene completed the early stage of his law degree with ATC before continuing at Liverpool, where he received the Direct Entry Prize at his graduation ceremony.
What This Achievement Means
Direct entry students join a UK university partway through a degree, after completing their earlier years of study elsewhere, usually through a transfer programme at a local college. Out of all the direct entry students who came to the University of Liverpool through a UK transfer programme, from any college, Eugene emerged as the best performing student of 2026.
That result speaks first to Eugene’s own hard work and discipline. It also says something about the foundation he built at ATC Penang, where teaching and assessment are designed with exactly this transition in mind. For students weighing their options, results like this answer the question that matters most: can a transfer student from Malaysia hold their own in the UK? Eugene’s answer was to lead the cohort.
From Penang to Liverpool
Eugene began his legal education at our Penang campus, completing the Malaysian stage of the UK Degree Transfer Programme before packing his bags for the United Kingdom. Moving from a Malaysian classroom to a British university is a real test. Students must adapt quickly to new teaching styles, new assessment methods and a new legal culture, all while measuring themselves against peers who have studied there from day one.
Graduating at the top of the direct entry cohort shows just how ready he was. Congratulations, Eugene! Watch this space for more success stories as our graduates make their mark around the world.
About the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law)
The UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law) lets you begin your law degree in Malaysia and complete it at a university in the United Kingdom, graduating with a full UK law degree at a lower overall cost than studying the entire degree overseas. Liverpool Law School, one of the oldest law schools in the UK, is among the destinations our students have progressed to, and it welcomes applicants from Malaysian transfer degree programmes.
Students can choose the pathway that fits their plans and budget:
- 2 years in Malaysia + 1 year in the UK
- 1 year in Malaysia + 2 years in the UK
Both routes lead to the same destination: a UK law degree, international exposure, and the confidence that comes from studying in two legal systems. Time in the UK brings more than a certificate. Students experience the English legal system at its source, build networks with classmates and lecturers from around the world, and graduate with the kind of independence that employers notice.
Prefer to complete your entire degree in Malaysia instead? The University of London LLB at ATC offers a world-class alternative without leaving home.
Key Dates for the September 2026 Intake
- Induction: 9 and 10 September 2026
- Intake begins: 14 September 2026
Induction days help new students settle in, meet their lecturers and get familiar with the campus before classes begin. Places for the September 2026 intake are limited, and transfer pathways reward early planning: subject choices, university applications and visa timelines all benefit from a head start.
