ATC Is the Only Malaysian RTC Awarded the Mcintosh Scholarship

Advance Tertiary College has been awarded a Mcintosh Scholarship bursary by the University of London. ATC is the only Recognised Teaching Centre in Malaysia to receive it, and one of just 28 institutions selected worldwide.

The funding will be used to award scholarships to new students joining the University of London LLB programme in the 2026/2027 academic year. ATC will match the amount awarded to every student who receives one.

What is the Mcintosh Scholarship?

The Mcintosh Scholarship is a bursary fund created by the University of London through a donation from alumnus Dr Robert McIntosh. Rather than distributing the money directly to individuals, the University channels a portion of the fund through selected Recognised Teaching Centres.

Those centres then award scholarships to their own students. The design is deliberate. Teaching centres know their students, understand local financial pressures, and can direct support where it makes a real difference.

Recognised Teaching Centres apply for a share of the fund. Twenty-eight institutions worldwide were successful. The University has described the scheme as strengthening its partnership with teaching centres and improving access to education with long-term impact.

The bursary is available for the 2026/2027 academic year only.

Why being the only Malaysian centre matters

Malaysia has several institutions teaching the University of London LLB. ATC is the only one that applied successfully for this fund.

Selection was not automatic. Centres had to make a case for how the money would be used and who it would reach. Being chosen reflects how the University assesses ATC’s teaching, student outcomes and the way the college supports its students.

For students in Malaysia, the practical effect is simple. This particular route to a University of London law degree now carries funding that is not available anywhere else in the country.

ATC is matching the funds

ATC will match the University’s award for every student who receives a scholarship. A student awarded a bursary from the Mcintosh fund receives an equal amount again from the college.

That doubles the value of each award. It also signals something about how ATC views the bursary: not as a marketing exercise, but as a fund worth adding to.

Legal education is a long commitment. Fees, materials and examination costs accumulate across several years. Reducing that pressure at the start changes what is possible for a capable student who would otherwise hesitate.

Who can apply

The scholarship is open to new students registering with ATC for the University of London LLB programme in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The University of London sets the overall terms of the fund, but eligibility requirements and the administration process are determined by each Recognised Teaching Centre. Full details of the scheme are published on the University of London Mcintosh Scholarship page.

ATC’s own criteria and application steps will be announced separately. Students who are considering the programme should register their interest now so that they receive the details as soon as applications open.

What happens next

Application details for the ATC Mcintosh Scholarship will be published in due course. Announcements will appear on the ATC scholarship page and through official ATC channels.

In the meantime, prospective students are welcome to get in touch. The admissions team can explain how the University of London LLB works at ATC, what the entry requirements are, and how the programme fits alongside the college’s other routes into law.

A recognition earned over time

ATC has taught the University of London LLB in Malaysia for many years. Recognition of this kind does not arrive from a single strong year. It follows sustained results, an experienced faculty, and students who go on to build careers in the profession.

Being the only Malaysian centre in a group of 28 worldwide places ATC in a small circle of teaching centres that the University has chosen to invest in directly. That is a meaningful position, and the students joining in 2026/2027 will be the first to benefit from it.
