In conjunction with the Association of Women Lawyers (AWL), ATC organised a webinar entitled Keeping our Schools Safe.
This was an opportunity to chat with Ain Husniza, an outspoken and courageous 17-year-old student to talk about the impact of sexual harassment at school, and how she reached out over TikTok to speak out against this, and how she has since been bullied, harassed, threatened and stigmatized for speaking her mind.
The conversation also allowed Daniella Zulkifili to explain the legal perspectives and highlight actions that can be taken by survivors of sexual harassment, abuse and rape. The session was moderated by Santhi Latha, the current president of AWL.
Conversations like this are crucial to building awareness about what our children might be going through in schools, what teachers might be normalising as acceptable behaviour and language, and what needs to be done to make a difference.
It was a successful and beneficial talk with about 100 participants attending.
