Subjects
Year 1
Contract Law (Compulsary)
In this subject you will learn about the principles governing the formation of contracts and how do we enforce it against the others. Students will also learn about how to vet contracts and the legality of various clauses found in contracts.
Criminal Law (Compulsary)
This module examines general principles of criminal liability, a range of fatal and non-fatal offences against the person and selected offences against property. It also looks at attempts to commit offences, secondary liability and defences.
Public Law (Compulsory)
Public Law examines the relation between citizens and the state, including sovereignty and the division of powers between legislature, executive and administration. The core area of the subject touches on workings of the government and the principal separation of powers for a good governance.
Legal System and Method (Compulsory)
This module introduces the English legal system and conveys what is distinctive about the common law approach as a legal methodology.
Contract Law (Compulsory)

In this subject you will explore each element of the cause of action in a negligence claim. The module builds on the duty of care concept to develop the understanding of principles of liability governing pure economic loss, psychiatric harm and liability of public authorities. It also explores those torts aimed at the safe and quiet enjoyment of land and protection of reputation.
Property Law (Compulsory)
This module centres on the various interests that can exist in land, the principles governing the creation, transfer and extinction of these interests and how these interests affects the third parties.
EU Law (Optional)
*(Compulsory for those intending to do Qualifying Law Degree)
This module will appeal to students who enjoy public law or who have an interest in public affairs, politics, economics or international relations. This module examines EU institutions and law-making powers as well as the key questions of the impact of EU law on national law and its overall consequences for business enterprises and individuals.
Commercial Law (Optional)
Commercial law is concerned with obligations between parties to commercial transactions and the relationship with rules of personal property. You will become familiar with a range of issues, including: ownership of or title to goods, transfers of title and the effect on third parties, passing of property between buyer and seller.
Family Law (Optional)
Family law affects every member of society. Modern legal regulation of family relationships involves a complex interaction between the family and the state. Marriage, divorce and the legal status of offspring are intertwined with questions of financial provision, child welfare and wider public policy issues.

Jurisprudence and Legal Theory (Compulsory)
Jurisprudence poses the fundamental questions about the nature of law, its place in society and how a legal system operates as a system of rules and as a social institution engaging with ideals of justice and often conflicting moral codes.
Equity and Trusts (Compulsory)
Equity and Trusts deals with the rules and principles governing the creation and operation of trusts – a particular method of holding property. The module provides an appreciation of the controversies and difficulties that can be encountered in establishing a valid trust, the role of trustees and equitable remedies.
Company Law (Optional)
This is a vital module for anyone intending to operate in a commercial field, the syllabus centres on the way the law regulates companies and the facilities that company law offers, such as limited liability and transferability of shares, as well as corresponding burdens such as duties of disclosure and compliance with statutory procedures.
Criminology (Optional)
This module concentrates on criminological theory as a discipline and challenges students to confront the presuppositions they have about crime and offenders.
Evidence (Optional)
The law of evidence governs what evidence may be presented and contested in the courtroom, techniques for eliciting evidence and the role of the lawyers, jury and judge in an adversarial system. Highly relevant to actual day-to-day legal practice, this module will appeal particularly to students intending to become courtroom lawyers.
Intellectual Property (Optional)
The law of intellectual property rights seeks a difficult balance between rewarding the right owner of a piece of intellectual property, and the needs of society to gain access to scientific, technological or cultural benefits. Students will study about various intellectual property rights that includes copyright, design, patent and trademark.

Programme Structure
Standard Entry Route
This 3-year degree programme requires students to complete 4 subjects each year, with a total of 12 subjects. There will be a mixture of compulsory modules and optional modules that you may take according to your preference. The students, must complete the course between 3 to 6 years from their initial registration with the university. Students may pursue Bar Practice Course (BPC) or Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) upon completion of their LLB degree. Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) will enable the students to pursue Bar Course to become Barrister at Law in UK. Those who wish to obtain a qualifying law degree must pass EU Law in addition to other compulsory subjects. For those who wish to obtain Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) to practice as a lawyer in Malaysia, it is mandatory to pass all compulsory subjects.
Graduate Entry Route
At ATC College, we also have a flexible structure for those of you who have a degree or equivalent in another field, and may already be working. You may apply for the Graduate Entry Route, which gives you an exemption of up to 3 subjects for eligible students. However, if you opt to do the Graduate Entry Route, you will not be eligible to become Advocates and Solicitors in Malaysia. The Graduate Entry Route is a fast track for those who would like to read law to enhance their career prospects. You may opt to complete 3 modules a year for 3 years. And you can choose to study full time or part-time.
Entry Requirement
You must have a minimum of 5 credits for SPM or at least 5 Cs at O Level and either:
- A minimum CGPA of 2.0 in your in your Foundation, STPM or Matriculation programmes; OR
- At least 2 A Level passes; OR
- At least 5 B’s in your UEC; OR
- Any qualification equivalent to a diploma (Level 4 MQF); OR
- Any equivalent qualification.
